Rail freight fuel efficiency up 22% since 1990

first_imgUSA: The Federal Railroad Administration released a study on November 19 showing a 22% improvement in rail freight fuel efficiency between 1990 and 2006. The Comparative Evaluation of Rail & Truck Fuel Efficiency on Competitive Corridors study by ICF International says reasons for increased efficiency include the acquisition of more than 13 000 new locomotives with cleaner engines, electronic controls and about half with AC traction, plus increasing use of longer and double stack trains, track and signalling improvements and the use of technology to reduce the number of wagons running empty. Rail was found to be more fuel efficient than lorry on all 23 competitive movements. ‘While all types of transportation are vital to the distribution of goods across the country, this study shows that utilising America’s freight rail system can lead to significant fuel savings’, said FRA Administrator Joseph Szabo. ‘The environmental benefits of these positive changes over the last two decades are enormous.’last_img read more

The four scholarships amounted to a total of two thousand and one hundred EC dollars. Delixianne St. Hilaire received the scholarship for the first time, while Daviscia Mitchel and Jahim James scholarships were renewed for the second year, and Isabel Leblanc renewed for her third year. Administrative Officer of the band, Jeffery Joseph, during a ceremony held on Friday August 4 2017 at the Fort Young Hotel, stated that the band tries annually to give back to the communities who have given to them. “Every year, we try to see exactly what we can do to help our community, because we recognize the fact that our community has helped us tremendously. We feel that it is our obligation to not only get from the community but to give back,” Joseph stated. Joseph added that the band now considers the scholarships a responsibility that they owe to the public. “Outside of the entertainment that we provide to the community, we think that it is our cooperate responsibility to assist those that, for whatever reason, are not able to assist themselves fully. We feel very elated every year that we have been blessed to be able to make this contribution to the youth in our society,” he added. He went on to note that it is not easy to make the contributions because each member has to make a personal sacrifice to do their part, but they continue to full fill what they now call their obligation to the youth. – / 8 Tweet Sharelast_img read more
